About The Position

The Utility Worker provides basic janitorial and light maintenance support as directed by the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager. The role may also provide assistance in other plant areas, including production, and requires flexibility in starting and completion times. The employee performs cleaning and repair tasks, supports safe machine operation, monitors supplies and safety equipment, and works collaboratively with plant employees.

Requirements

• Ability to perform constant standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, reaching, bending, stooping, twisting, grasping, and repeated wrist, elbow, and shoulder motion.
• Ability to frequently push a cart that may weigh 200 pounds.
• Ability to work with occasional exposure to dust and lint; a mask is available for use.
• Follow safety procedures and lockout/tagout procedures when directed.

Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial tasks as directed.
• Perform basic maintenance cleaning, including wiping down, blowing out, and lubricating equipment.
• Maintain casters on carts and gondolas.
• Maintain the new goods warehouse and communicate stock levels of key items.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance once trained and as directed.
• Notify a supervisor when scheduled work is not completed or when work reveals serious issues.
• Inspect eyewash stations and other safety items.
• Work collaboratively with employees, recognizing that the maintenance department supports production.
• Follow proper safety procedures around machinery and comply with lockout/tagout procedures when directed.
• Perform repair work carefully and efficiently; consult a supervisor when priorities conflict.
• Provide backup for production jobs as needed.
• Notify a supervisor when maintenance or cleaning supplies are low.
• Seek out available work, such as cleaning machinery or keeping the plant clean and tidy.
• Suggest ideas for improvements.
• Attend safety meetings as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
• Remain flexible regarding starting and completion times.
