About The Position

Goodwin Living is seeking a Utility Person to maintain the overall cleanliness, sanitation, and order of the Dining Services Department according to departmental standards. The position pays $20.00 per hour and is PRN/on-call. Weekend and evening availability is preferred. The Utility Person handles recycling, compostables, and trash; keeps kitchen areas clean; disposes of used kitchen grease; and performs detailed cleaning of facilities, appliances, and equipment. The role also supports other kitchen functions as needed, including receiving, food storage, food preparation, dish machine operation, and meal service. Goodwin Living is a nonprofit senior living and healthcare organization based in Alexandria, Virginia. Its mission is to support, honor, and uplift older adults and those who care for them.

Requirements

Must be able to deal tactfully with others.
Must be able to read, write, and comprehend instructions.
Must have effective verbal communication skills to engage with staff, residents, and management.
Must be well groomed, practice good personal hygiene, and project a professional appearance.

Responsibilities

Collect and empty recycling, compostables, and trash into appropriate receptacles outside the facility.
Break down boxes for recycling and place them in the proper area as needed.
Clean and sanitize trash containers according to department guidelines.
Sweep, mop, and hose kitchen areas regularly or as needed.
Collect and dispose of used kitchen grease according to proper handling procedures.
Perform detailed cleaning of facilities, appliances, and equipment as assigned to maintain departmental sanitation standards.
Support other kitchen functions as needed, including receiving, food storage, food preparation, dish machine operation, and meal service.
