About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to protect underground utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This role requires locating underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws and producing accurate, reliable marks using advanced technology and multiple locating methods. The successful candidate is self-motivated and able to work independently in an assigned territory without close supervision. The position involves working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, communicating with excavators, property owners, and team members, and participating in an on-call rotation. The company operates 24/7/365, and this role requires willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules, as well as travel.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Accurately mark utilities using paint and flags.
- Document work using a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
