Utility Locator (Evansville, IN)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities in Evansville, Indiana. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This is an independent, professional role for someone who understands 811 laws, values accurate and safe work, and can manage an assigned territory without close supervision. The role requires working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, communicating effectively with excavators, property owners, and teammates, and participating in an on-call rotation. Travel and overtime may be required. The listed pay range is $20.00–$30.00 per hour, and employees are paid door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Accuracy, safety, and effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work, including photos and reports, using a mobile app.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
