Utility Locator (Odon, IN)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has provided utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging services since 2001 and operates nationwide. This is a full-time employee role for a self-motivated professional who can work independently in an assigned territory, communicate effectively, and maintain accuracy and safety standards. The position involves working in all weather conditions, traveling, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and participating in an on-call rotation.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
