About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator in Lafayette, Indiana. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This role involves locating underground utilities, documenting work, investigating excavation-related utility damages, and participating in an on-call rotation. The successful candidate is self-motivated, able to work independently, and willing to work in all weather conditions, travel, work overtime, and follow flexible schedules. The position is full-time and pays $20.00–$30.00 per hour.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and without supervision.
• Accuracy- and safety-minded approach.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
