Utility Locator (Versailles, IN)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and performs utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects nationwide. This is a full-time employee position with an hourly pay range of $20.00 to $30.00. The role involves independently managing work in an assigned area, while communicating effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. Locators must be willing to work in all weather conditions, travel, work overtime and flexible schedules, and participate in an on-call rotation. The company provides operational support and modern locating technology.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of utility locating experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
- Ability to maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Effective communication skills with excavators, property owners, and team members.

Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate with excavators, property owners, and team members.
- Work independently in an assigned area and in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
