About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities in Topeka, Indiana. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position for someone who can work independently and take responsibility for an assigned territory. The role involves working in all weather conditions, communicating with excavators, property owners, and teammates, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, and participating in an on-call rotation. The position offers hourly pay of $20.00–$30.00, paid door to door.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with utility maps, as-built drawings, GIS data, electronic locating equipment, and multiple locating methods.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
