About The Position

Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and performs nationwide utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This is a full-time employee position based in Evansville, Indiana. The role offers independence in an assigned work area, with operational support and modern locating technology. Locators must be prepared to work in all weather conditions, travel, participate in an on-call rotation, and work overtime and flexible schedules as needed.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locating practices.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass a drug screen.
• Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
• Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
• Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
• Consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.

• Experience with nationwide utility locating, inspection, or sewer imaging projects.

Responsibilities

• Locate underground utilities in compliance with applicable 811 dig laws.
• Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
• Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
• Mark utilities accurately with paint and flags.
• Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
• Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
• Participate in an on-call rotation.
• Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
• Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
