About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator for its Locate Services Division in Goshen, Indiana. The company has protected underground utility infrastructure since 2001 and performs nationwide utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. This role involves locating underground utilities in compliance with 811 dig laws, using advanced locating technology, and producing accurate marks and documentation. The locator works independently in an assigned area and participates in an on-call rotation. The position requires working in all weather conditions, maintaining company equipment and vehicles, communicating effectively with excavators, property owners, and teammates, and being willing to travel, work overtime, and follow flexible schedules. The position is full-time, with an hourly salary range of $20.00 to $30.00. The company states that employees are paid door to door.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions and travel.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Mark utilities accurately using paint and flags.
- Document work in a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
