Utility Locator (Logansport, IN)
About The Position
Northern Lights Locating & Inspection, Inc. is hiring an experienced Utility Locator to locate underground utilities and help protect utility infrastructure. The company has operated since 2001 and works nationwide on utility locating, inspection, and sewer imaging projects. The role offers independence in an assigned work area, supported by company operations and modern locating technology. The Utility Locator must work independently, follow 811 dig laws and best practices, maintain company equipment and vehicles, and communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members. The position involves work in all weather conditions, overtime and flexible schedules, travel, and participation in an on-call rotation. Work must be documented using a mobile app, including photos and reports.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of utility locating experience.
- Strong knowledge of 811 laws and best locate practices.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug screen.
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible schedules.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
- Maintain a tobacco-free company vehicle.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and without supervision.
- Effective communication and a team-oriented approach.
Responsibilities
- Locate underground utilities in compliance with all 811 dig laws.
- Read and interpret utility maps, as-built drawings, and GIS data.
- Use electronic locating equipment and multiple locating methods.
- Accurately mark utilities using paint and flags.
- Document work using a mobile app, including photos and reports.
- Investigate and document excavation-related utility damages.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
- Maintain company equipment and vehicles.
- Communicate effectively with excavators, property owners, and team members.
