About The Position

The automotive dealership Used Car Sales Manager is responsible for profitability in both the new and used vehicle departments and for customer retention. To achieve this, they must effectively manage sales personnel; have a strong knowledge of the market, and an in depth understanding of all sales departments’ financial data as well as strong customer relations skills.

  • People working within the automotive retail industry often work extended hours, evenings and weekends to achieve their goals.
  • A valid state sales license is often required.
  • Proven track record of successfully meeting and exceeding sales goals
  • Excellent customer service, organizational and negotiation/closing skills
  • Self-motivated, goal oriented and enthusiastic presence in a team environment
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word)
  • ADP Dealer Services Experience a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Professional appearance and work ethic

Responsibilities

  • Creating the annual dealership sales forecasts by estimating total vehicle sales, gross and operating profits as well as expenses for the new and used sales departments.
  • Meeting with vehicle sales managers to plan and implement objectives for achieving sales and gross profits.
  • Hiring and monitoring the performance of the department managers, holding weekly sales meetings and conducting sales training.
  • Overseeing standards for displaying and merchandising both new and used vehicles as well as reviewing and initialing all promotions before they are finalized.
  • Coordinating the appropriate supply of new and used vehicles and ordering/acquiring vehicle inventory accordingly.
  • Attending to customer complaints, ensuring that a high level of customer satisfaction is obtained.
  • Auditing all appraisals of trade-in vehicles.
  • Issuing all demonstration vehicles and ensuring that appropriate dealership records are maintained.
  • Create and organize all sales activities for the Sales division
  • Work with and supervise Sales Consultants to ensure individual and department sales goals and quotas are met
  • Partner with the Financial Services department to develop and coordinate best practices for the most efficient and effective sales approach
  • Create action plan and effectively manage sales managers and sales staff
  • Identify coaching needs and promote training opportunities
  • Hire, mentor and monitor the performance of department heads
  • Set an example of professionalism through actions and appearance
  • Maintain superior customer service (CSI) through dealership culture
  • Ensure target revenues are met or exceeded
  • Responsible for profitability in both the new and used vehicle departments
  • Work closely with sales team on enforcement of proper selling methods
  • Set objectives for achieving sales and gross profits
  • Manage new and pre- owned cars inventory
  • Assist in developing and advertising and marketing plan
  • Plan, implement and measure promotions
  • Work with the General Manager to review forecasts and profits for each department
  • Responsible for developing a productive relationship throughout the various dealership departments – F&I, accounting, pre-owned, service, and parts
  • Create annual dealership sales forecasts
  • Be the biggest promoter of CSI throughout the dealership
  • Develop future sales managers and professionals throughout job growth, training, development and performance
  • Provide guidance, support and motivation to ensure employees are maximizing their ability and growth potential
  • Maintain a positive and ethical working relationship with all employees, manufacturers, lenders, vendors and customers
  • Meeting monthly with the dealership’s general manager to review forecasts and profits for each department.
  • Working directly with the general manager on making recommendations on both short and long-range advertising plans, sales promotions, staffing needs, lease promotions and compensation plans.
  • Overseeing and management of the Finance department.
