The Mills Institute at Northeastern University Upward Bound (MCUB) TRIO Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, aims to enhance the academic skills of low-income, first-generation, college-bound high school students in the Oakland and West Contra Costa Unified School Districts, with the ultimate goal of encouraging post-secondary education. The Summer Enrichment Program will provide academic instruction in core subjects (English, Sciences, Mathematics) and offer courses and workshops on topics such as Life Skills, Study Skills, College Preparation, Career Exploration, and Cultural Awareness. The program is a six-week academic enrichment program held on the Mills College Campus for students entering grades 9th-12th. Staff orientations are scheduled for June 11th, and instruction runs from June 15th to July 23rd, with daily sessions from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, followed by a tutoring period from 3:40 PM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. No programming will occur on June 19th or July 6th. MCUB is seeking motivated, knowledgeable, creative, engaging, and student-focused educators with experience in teaching Humanities, Mathematics, and Lab Sciences to high school students. Instructors should possess the passion, innovation, and knowledge to inspire and challenge students, fostering the skills necessary for college success. The role involves developing a strong curriculum tailored to students' needs, interests, abilities, and curiosities. Courses will feature small class sizes (up to 25 students), daily in-class instruction, group work, real-world application of concepts, and quizzes. Instructors will receive 12 off-site preparation hours per class taught.
