About The Position

The Upward Bound TRIO program at the University of Northern Iowa is looking for Summer Program Instructors to join the staff for the 2026 Summer Program. The Upward Bound 2026 Summer Program is a 6-week college prep residential program for eligible high school students (scholars) from the Waterloo Community School District. Participating scholars live in a dorm setting and take courses on the University of Northern Iowa campus (Monday-Friday). Scholars and staff also take part in extracurricular activities that include college visits, theater workshops, and more. The summer program will run from June 1st through July 10th.

Requirements

  • Certified teacher or graduate student in the subject area.
  • Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Teach preparatory classes for high school students participating in the 2026 UNI Upward Bound Summer Program.
  • Develop a syllabus for their class(es).
  • Instruct Upward Bound high school students while managing the classroom.
  • Report any problems to the UNI Upward Bound Program Director.
  • Administer a pre- and post-test.
  • Complete progress reports and grading as instructed.
  • Attend all required orientation and faculty meetings.
  • Complete all paperwork as requested in a timely manner.
