About The Position

The Upward Bound Science Instructor is responsible for developing curriculum and teaching within academic skill areas such as science to high school participants during the Academic Year or Summer Component. This role involves creating detailed syllabi, lesson plans, and assessment measures, as well as managing student documentation and providing feedback to program staff. The instructor will also advise student tutors, participate in staff meetings and development workshops, and ensure compliance with Trinity University policies. The position requires a collaborative spirit and professional leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
  • One year of teaching experience.
  • One year of experience in direct service to low income and/or first-generation students.
  • Expertise in academic area of instruction and use of classroom technology.
  • Skill in the development of curriculum that clearly outlines the course requirements, rationale, goals, and objectives.
  • Proficient in implementing strategies and systems for the management, assessment and evaluation of student learning.
  • Strong understanding of the academic and social barriers faced by low-income and potential first-generation students.

Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction to high school participants within Academic Year or Summer Component.
  • Researches and develops course curriculum including a detailed syllabus, lesson plans, and assessment measures.
  • Manages and records student assessment measures and documentation including progress and final reports.
  • Advises and directs student tutors in the implementation of course lessons.
  • Provides formative and summative feedback to program staff on student capabilities and needs.
  • Participates in staff meetings and development workshops.
  • Cooperate and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as required.
