About The Position

The Student Ambassador supports the Upward Bound program's mission by mentoring and guiding high school students during an intensive summer college-preparatory experience. In this role, Student Ambassadors build positive relationships with participants, facilitate college-readiness workshops and activities, and serve as role models promoting professionalism, safety, and respect. Student Ambassadors work closely with program staff to monitor student engagement, address concerns, assist with program logistics, and help implement daily activities and coursework. They support both in-person and virtual programming, help manage forms and reports, and ensure a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all participants.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2.6 cumulative GPA. Please list your GPA on your Resume.
  • Have at least 4 semesters of undergraduate college experience completed by the end of Spring Semester 2026.
  • Previous experience working with pre-college students (Summer Camps, Tutoring, Mentoring, etc.).
  • Successful completion of a BCI/FBI (Fingerprint) background check prior to the official start date.

Responsibilities

  • Build and sustain meaningful, supportive relationships with students.
  • Provide peer mentoring, counseling, and individualized college-readiness advising to support scholars’ academic and postsecondary goals.
  • Design, facilitate, and co-lead small- and large-group college preparatory workshops.
  • Communicate student-related concerns, observations, and emerging needs promptly and professionally to the Program Manager.
  • Serve as a teaching assistant for summer program course instructors by supporting classroom instruction, activities, and student engagement.
  • Promote scholar safety and the security of personal belongings through proactive instruction, supervision, redirection, and collaboration with program staff.
  • Support program operations by distributing, collecting, and organizing required forms and materials, including attendance records and incident reports.
  • Model professionalism and positive conduct that fosters respectful, supportive, and trusting mentor–student relationships.
  • Serve as a host for the end-of-program college tour by supporting logistics, engaging participants, and modeling professional conduct.
