About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver seeks a part-time upper school science teacher to teach one section of Life Sciences and one section of Biology, following Hillsdale College's K-12 curriculum. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the sciences (Biology, Chemistry, or a related field), or equivalent experience (Teaching license NOT required).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision, subbing for other teachers) on a shared schedule
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACAND and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
  • Perform other duties as assigned
