About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver seeks a part-time upper school history teacher to teach one section of American History to 1865 and one section of American History since 1865, following Hillsdale College's K-12 Civics curriculum. We seek teachers with high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can-do attitude to join our team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the humanities and science (English, History, Philosophy, or a related field), or equivalent experience (Teaching license NOT required).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with the Student Services team to meet the requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACAND and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation, as well as official college transcripts, within 90 days of hire date
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
  • Perform other duties as assigned
