About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Denver (ACAND) is seeking an Art Teacher for grades K-10. This position is responsible for preparing and delivering lessons, teaching and mentoring students using classical pedagogy, grading student work, and collaborating with various school teams. The role also involves assisting in daily school operations, participating in professional development, and maintaining professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. The teacher will also be responsible for organizing and facilitating an event featuring student artwork and ensuring the confidentiality of student records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 36 credit hours in Education or a Art related field
  • Passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area

Responsibilities

  • Prepare unit and weekly/daily lesson plans following curriculum guidelines for each year
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)
  • Organize, prepare, and facilitate at least one community building event or opportunity during the school year featuring student artwork
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACAND and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Maintain a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Effectively communicate with supervisor and teammates
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace
  • Perform other duties as assigned
