About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ) is seeking an Art Education Teacher for the upcoming school year. This role is responsible for cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming, while maintaining professionalism and exemplifying core virtues. The teacher will prepare unit and lesson plans in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide, teach and mentor students using classical pedagogy, and manage student work and progress. The position also involves assisting in daily school operations, participating in professional development, and maintaining confidentiality. The teacher will deliver engaging and inclusive art lessons for students in grades K-12, focusing on skill development, and will establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment. Management of art equipment and supplies is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree/passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area

Responsibilities

  • Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
  • Maintaining professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our core virtues
  • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
  • Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACACS and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records
  • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
  • Performs other related duties as directed
  • Deliver engaging and inclusive art lessons for students in grades K-12, focusing on skill development
  • Evaluate and monitor student progress through regular assessments and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation
