About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction is seeking a passionate Music Teacher for grades K-6 for the upcoming school year. This role is part of a classical, content-rich educational environment focused on training the hearts and minds of the next generation. The co-curricular teacher will model good character and provide excellent instruction based on classical pedagogy and curriculum. We are looking for organized, diligent candidates with high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can-do attitude, devoted to helping all students grow in wisdom and virtue. This position may include general grammar school music (K-6) and potentially discipline-specific classes like choir, guitar, or percussion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 36 credit hours in Education or a Music related field (Colorado Teaching license is NOT required).
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction and a high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government.
  • Adherence to all school policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor duties.
  • Must undergo a comprehensive background check, including criminal records review and fingerprinting.
  • Must provide verifiable proof of qualifications and undergo reference checks.
  • Must adhere to Colorado Education Laws.

Nice To Haves

  • A strong preference is given to candidates with a Music Education degree and/or certification in Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly, or Dalcroze pedagogies.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and foster a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Organize, prepare, and facilitate annual concerts for all grade levels each semester and additional performance and community-building events and opportunities throughout the school year.
  • Prepare unit and lesson plans following curriculum guidelines for each year.
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods.
  • Manage students graded work in a timely manner.
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning, and proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle.
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions.
  • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others.
  • Effectively communicate regularly, usually weekly, with supervisor, teammates, and student's parents.
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule.
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACACS and Hillsdale College's K12 Office.
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as college transcripts within 90 days of hire date.
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
