About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction is seeking passionate teachers for the upcoming school year who are dedicated to classical education and training the hearts and minds of the next generation. The school emphasizes a content-rich education and fosters a community of learners who share a passion for learning and developing high moral character in future citizens. Ideal candidates will have high standards of excellence, a professional demeanor, a warm rapport with students, clear communication with parents, and a can-do attitude. This position involves teaching a combination of 10th & 11th grade foreign language classes, or other courses based on qualifications and experience, for up to 5 classes. Teachers may also be asked to provide coverage for other classes as needed. The role requires organization and a devotion to helping students grow in wisdom and virtue.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in foreign language, Classical Studies, English, or a related field, or equivalent experience (Teaching license NOT required).

  • Mandatory Background Checks: Candidates are required to undergo a comprehensive background check, including criminal records review and fingerprinting. Certain findings may disqualify a candidate.
  • Verification of Qualifications: Verifiable proof of qualifications and reference checks will be conducted.
  • Adherence to Colorado Education Laws: Applicants must be familiar with and adhere to standards set forth by the Colorado Department of Education.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year.
  • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods.
  • Assign, collect, grade and return graded work in a timely manner.
  • Proctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year).
  • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning.
  • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions.
  • Collaborate with Student Services team to meet the requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others.
  • Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents.
  • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule.
  • Participate in professional development as offered by ACACS and Hillsdale College's K12 Office.
  • Maintain confidentiality in student records.
  • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners.
  • Complete all required training and provide documentation as well as official college transcripts within 90 days of hire date.
  • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
