This position is responsible for the setup, operation, and changeover of technical systems during rehearsals and performances, ensuring high-quality audio and seamless production support. Duties may include live mixing for performers and/or orchestra, as well as the setup and maintenance of backstage systems, intercoms, and audio and video monitors. The role requires working knowledge of equipment typical of modern sound systems, including wired and wireless technologies, audio-over-IP systems such as the Dante protocol, and frequency coordination; experience with Open Sound Control or recording is a plus. Familiarity with lighting systems, including LED and moving lights, as well as control platforms like the EOS family and DMX over Ethernet, is preferred. Stagehands do the manual labor of loading and unloading trucks full of gear, moving it in and out of the hall or venue, and assisting with the set-up and tear down of the stage and the equipment used in concerts, theater productions, or large events. These students will work alongside local workers, including labor unions, who are contracted on a show-to-show basis for rigging and carpentry. They will report to our Technical Director, who will facilitate lighting and sound needs in coordination with tour manager’s advances. Both positions may perform other duties as assigned.
