About The Position

The Illinois Shakespeare Festival is seeking applications for a Sound Engineer, Sound Technician, Assistant Master Electricians, and Electricians for the 2026 summer season. The Illinois Shakespeare Festival is a professional repertory theatre company that produces Shakespeare and contemporary plays in the spirit of Shakespeare every summer at the beautiful Ewing Cultural Center in Bloomington, Illinois. The Festival hires professional Directors, Designers, Actors, and production personnel and offers a variety of internships to students from Illinois State University and other colleges and universities. The Festival sells an average of 10,000 tickets per year, is supported by Illinois State University and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival Society.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication/leadership skills (Sound Engineer)
  • Ability to teach/lead a sound team with interns (Sound Engineer)
  • Significant lighting, electrical, and supervisory experience (Assistant Lead Electrician)

  • Proficient on ETC consoles (Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Capable troubleshooting ability (Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Excellent communication/leadership skills (Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Ability to teach/lead young electricians and interns (Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Lighting and electrical experience (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Demonstrated lighting skills (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Proficient on ETC consoles (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Capable troubleshooting ability (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Ability to teach interns (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Sound experience (Sound Technician)
  • Demonstrated sound installation skills (Sound Technician)
  • Proficient on sound consoles (Sound Technician)
  • Strong troubleshooting ability (Sound Technician)
  • Ability to teach interns (Sound Technician)

Responsibilities

  • Run the sound board for two Mainstage Productions (Sound Engineer)
  • Run the lightboard or spotlight for 2 Mainstage productions (Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Be transitioned to a board operator and/or spotlight operator when tech begins (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Perform system installation pre-season (Sound Technician)
  • Assist with technical rehearsals (Sound Technician)
