About The Position

The Illinois Shakespeare Festival is seeking applications for highly skilled and experienced Cutter/Drapers and First Hands, as well as Costume Technicians and Costume Crafts Technicians for the 2026 summer season. The Illinois Shakespeare Festival is a professional repertory theatre company that produces Shakespeare and contemporary plays in the spirit of Shakespeare every summer at the beautiful Ewing Cultural Center in Bloomington, Illinois. The Festival hires professional Directors, Designers, Actors, and production personnel and offers a variety of internships to students from Illinois State University and other colleges and universities. The Festival sells an average of 10,000 tickets per year, is supported by Illinois State University and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival Society. We are seeking to fill several seasonal positions in the Costumes area for the Festival's 2026 season.

Requirements

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated
  • Strong communication skills
  • Professional cutter/draper experience (for Cutter/Draper roles)
  • Costume construction experience (for Costume Technician/Wardrobe Crew)
  • Strong construction skills (for Costume Technician/Wardrobe Crew)
  • Experience working in a managerial position (for Assistant Craft Shop Supervisor)
  • Advanced organizational skills (for Assistant Craft Shop Supervisor)
  • Knowledge of costume and craft construction methods (for Assistant Craft Shop Supervisor)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without ISU sponsorship
  • Work must be performed from within the State of Illinois

Nice To Haves

  • Professional first hand experience (for Cutter/Draper and First Hand roles)
  • Costume construction experience in a professional environment (for Costume Technician/Wardrobe Crew)
  • Managerial experience in a professional craft shop (for Assistant Craft Shop Supervisor)
  • Submission of images of work or a link to an online portfolio

Responsibilities

  • Teach young costume professionals and interns (for Cutter/Drapers, First Hands, and Costume Technicians)
  • Produce professional quality costumes independently (for Costume Technicians)
  • Work with professional costume designers (for Assistant Craft Shop Supervisor)
