About The Position

The Illinois Shakespeare Festival is seeking applications for various crew positions for its 2026 summer season, including Sound Engineer, Sound Technician, Assistant Master Electricians, and Electricians. The Festival is a professional repertory theatre company that produces Shakespeare and contemporary plays every summer at the Ewing Cultural Center in Bloomington, Illinois. It hires professional Directors, Designers, Actors, and production personnel, and offers a variety of internships to students from Illinois State University and other colleges and universities. These positions are specifically for ISU Students. Housing is available at a reduced cost. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as positions will be filled as applications are received.

Requirements

  • Significant sound, electrical, and supervisory experience (for Sound Engineer)
  • Demonstrated sound engineering/installation skills (for Sound Engineer)
  • Proficiency on sound consoles (for Sound Engineer)
  • Strong troubleshooting ability (for Sound Engineer)
  • Excellent communication/leadership skills (for Sound Engineer)
  • Ability to teach/lead a sound team with interns (for Sound Engineer)

Nice To Haves

  • Significant lighting, electrical, and supervisory experience, preferably in a professional environment (for Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Demonstrated lighting skills (for Assistant Lead Electrician, Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Proficiency on ETC consoles (for Assistant Lead Electrician, Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Capable troubleshooting ability (for Assistant Lead Electrician, Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Excellent communication/leadership skills (for Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Ability to teach/lead young electricians and interns (for Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Lighting and electrical experience (for Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Ability to teach interns (for Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator, Sound Technician)
  • Sound experience, preferably in a professional environment (for Sound Technician)

Responsibilities

  • Run the sound board for two Mainstage Productions (Sound Engineer)
  • Run the lightboard or spotlight for 2 Mainstage productions (Assistant Lead Electrician)
  • Transition to a board operator and/or spotlight operator when tech begins (Electrician and Light Board/Spot Operator)
  • Perform system installation pre-season and assist with technical rehearsals (Sound Technician)
