About The Position

This position is responsible for the setup, operation, and changeover of technical systems during rehearsals and performances, ensuring high-quality audio and seamless production support. Duties may include live mixing for performers and/or orchestra, as well as the setup and maintenance of backstage systems, intercoms, and audio and video monitors. The role requires working knowledge of equipment typical of modern sound systems, including wired and wireless technologies, audio-over-IP systems such as the Dante protocol, and frequency coordination; experience with Open Sound Control or recording is a plus. Familiarity with lighting systems, including LED and moving lights, as well as control platforms like the EOS family and DMX over Ethernet, is preferred.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester.
  • If not a first-time student, the applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
  • Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from MyJaxState.
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Must have attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Must work well with deadlines.
  • Must contribute as a member of a team.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
  • Applicants who cannot attend training or require extended periods of leave will not be considered.
  • All international students must be in a valid immigration status.
  • Due to Visa requirements international students must be enrolled as a full-time JSU student and possess each of the following: Passports from their respective country. F-1 Student Visa or J-1 Exchange Student Visa. U.S. Customs Form I-94. Official photo identification. Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement

Nice To Haves

  • experience with Open Sound Control or recording is a plus

Responsibilities

  • loading and unloading trucks full of gear
  • moving it in and out of the hall or venue
  • assisting with the set-up and tear down of the stage and the equipment used in concerts, theater productions, or large events.
  • work alongside local workers, including labor unions, who are contracted on a show-to-show basis for rigging and carpentry
  • report to our Technical Director, who will facilitate lighting and sound needs in coordination with tour manager’s advances.
