About The Position

Prepares records, processes orders and provides patient care in the hospital setting, supporting the nursing philosophy. May include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and/or on-call hours. Performs other duties as assigned. This role is part-time, involving two 12-hour shifts with a weekend and holiday rotation, primarily on the night shift at Walworth Hospital and Medical Center on the Mercy Walworth Medical Surgical floor, which includes SCU/ICU. The unit has 25 beds with a typical patient ratio of 4/5 to 1, potentially less depending on acuity. The unit is supported by 24/7 Hospitalist and ED physicians, with shift coordinators and resource nurses available at night.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CNA program.
  • Completion of a Unit Clerk course or equivalent on the job training (which can be provided).
  • Nursing Assistant Certification in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Processes orders and patient charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Answers the telephone and call lights in an appropriate and timely manner, providing information or relaying messages to patients and staff.
  • Directs visitors to patients' rooms.
  • Maintains medical records of current patients.
  • Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking, and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures according to CNA job duties and expectations.
  • Documents care provided according to standards.
  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
  • Floats to various units based on identified needs.
  • Participates in department and unit performance improvement activities.
  • Verifies accuracy of charges entered.
  • Facilitates a welcoming environment assisting with visitor wayfinding.
  • Assembles patient folders and charts for unit.
  • Sets up Raul and responder/Vocera/versus for new staff.
