About The Position

The Unit Assistant works at Waterview Hills Campus, which includes Waterview Hills and Salem Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare, facilities providing subacute rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care. The role assists with meal service and resident transport, monitors resident areas, engages with residents, and helps with activities as needed. The position is full-time at 35 hours per week, with an every-other-weekend rotation and day or evening shifts.

Requirements

• Some high school education is required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible.
• Must be a team player and willing to help where and when needed.
• Sincere desire to work with elderly, chronically ill, and disabled people.
• Ability to build rapport with patients and residents.
• Compassionate and caring demeanor.
• Excellent customer service skills and eagerness to help.

Nice To Haves

• Healthcare industry work experience is preferred but not required.
• Previous experience with geriatric, short-term rehabilitation, or Alzheimer’s patients is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal service, including passing and collecting trays and distributing beverages.
• Monitor the day room while engaging with residents and assist with activities when needed.
• Inform the Nurse or CNA of resident needs or observed changes in a resident’s condition.
• Transport residents and distribute meal trays, setting up meals for residents assigned by the Charge Nurse or Supervisor.
• Transport residents to designated dining areas, assist with seating, and help with handwashing.
• Assist residents with obtaining meal or snack alternatives and opening containers.
• Help transport residents to and from programs and assist activity staff.
• Supervise residents in the patio area during suitable weather and monitor the assigned Community Room, assisting residents as needed.
• Tidy resident rooms and linen closets and make beds.
• Perform additional duties assigned by nursing administration.
