About The Position

Meritus Health is seeking a Unit Nutrition Assistant to join its Nutrition Services team. The role supports high-quality food service for patients by ensuring accurate meal selections, safe food handling, and excellent customer service. The Unit Nutrition Assistant serves as a liaison between patients, dietitians, and foodservice staff to promote optimal nutrition care and patient satisfaction. This is a part-time position scheduled for 32 hours bi-weekly, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One to two years of food service experience preferred, particularly experience with modified diets and direct customer service.
Clerical and typing ability preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Patient-focused and service-oriented.

Responsibilities

Retrieve, evaluate, and process diet orders and messages, and communicate updates to Nutrition Services and Nursing staff.
Collect patient meal selections through in-person visits or phone calls while following diet orders and patient preferences.
Process meal tickets and tally sheets, and deliver trays to patients according to schedule.
Answer and direct phone calls professionally and courteously.
Operate CBORD and Bedside menu entry systems accurately.
Follow safe food handling, storage, and infection control practices in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards, including HACCP, TJC, and Maryland Department of Health requirements.
