About The Position

This recruitment is exempt from the Hiring Freeze (Administrative Order 358). ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS! The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Employment and Training Services, is recruiting for multiple Unemployment Insurance Technician 1s located in Anchorage! No Cover Letter Required! These positions are in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 14. What You Will Be Doing: You will be working in a claim center environment answering phone calls from the public to assist with their Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims and making benefit eligibility decisions. You will be provided with up to 12 weeks of paid training in class to help you acquire the knowledge and skills to process UI claims accurately, timely, and independently. Requirements

  • One year of experience that includes work such as providing customer service, support, and feedback.
  • Explaining laws, rules, policies and procedures, services, or program requirements.
  • Gathering information and making eligibility or benefit determinations.
  • Calculating costs, refunds, taxes, or benefits.
  • Providing written explanations, summaries, reports, or correspondence.
  • Eliciting information and inputting data into information systems or databases.
  • Adaptability: Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgement to generate and evaluate alternatives and makes recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Answering phone calls from the public to assist with their Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims.
  • Making benefit eligibility decisions.
  • Processing UI claims accurately, timely, and independently.
  • Taking, processing, and educating on UI claims and eligibility determinations telephonically with unemployed Alaskans and employers.
