About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's Neuroscience Institute (NI) within the Mellon College of Science is seeking an Undergraduate Research Assistant. The NI is an interdisciplinary research and education center focused on advancing the understanding of the brain through various fields including neuroscience, artificial intelligence, psychology, engineering, and computational science. The institute fosters collaboration among researchers, faculty, and students to study cognition, behavior, brain health, and neural technology, with the goal of translating discoveries into practical applications and treatments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of pre-employment background check.
• Strong problem-solving, data analysis, reasoning, and communication skills.
• A combination of education and proven experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Nice To Haves

• Previous research experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Working neurobiology experiments examining the effect of visual stimulation on cortical and subcortical areas of the brain in rodents
• Learning how to set up visual stimulation hardware
• Organizing and managing research documentation
• Assisting with Neural Spike Sorting analysis
• Collaborating with researchers from many different backgrounds and skill sets to design and refine novel paradigms
