About The Position

Star Pro Security Patrol, Inc. is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Unarmed Security Officer to ensure the safety and security of residents, staff, and visitors at a shelter in Downtown San Diego. The ideal candidate is alert, reliable, and committed to maintaining a safe environment. The position is listed as part-time to full-time, with a schedule to be determined and pay of $17–$19 per hour. Candidates must have a California BSIS Guard Card and a high school diploma or GED. Previous security experience is a plus, and prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred. The role requires strong observational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills; composure in high-stress situations; flexible availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed; and understanding and empathy toward homeless individuals and families. CPR/First Aid certification is a plus. Physical requirements include standing, walking, and patrolling for extended periods, occasionally lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, and responding quickly to emergencies. Requirements

California BSIS Guard Card is required.

Nice To Haves

Previous security experience.
Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field.
CPR/First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

Monitor and patrol shelter premises to prevent and detect intrusion and check the security of doors, windows, and gates.
Help maintain order and ensure residents, visitors, and staff follow shelter rules and policies.
Respond promptly to alarms and disturbances, investigate their causes, and take appropriate action.
Maintain a visible security presence to deter incidents and reassure residents and staff.
Conduct regular checks of sleeping areas, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
Report irregularities, suspicious activities, and safety hazards to shelter management.
Assist with access control and ensure only authorized individuals enter the premises.
Support residents and staff as needed, including through conflict de-escalation and first aid if required.
Maintain detailed logs and records of incidents and activities during each shift.
Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
