About The Position

The Unarmed Security Guard position is based on a potential contract award in San Antonio, Texas, with various shifts available. Guards must meet the listed education, experience, communication, interpersonal, health, and physical fitness standards. Duties include being capable of detaining individuals while notifying VA Police or local police and awaiting their arrival. Guards may be subject to random urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use.

Requirements

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalency.
• Demonstrate the ability to read, understand, and apply printed rules, detailed orders, instruction, and training materials.
• Be literate in English to the extent of understanding written regulations, orders, and training materials and composing clear, concise reports that convey complete information.
• Be at least 18 years of age, as required by local laws.
• Be capable of detaining individuals while notifying VA Police or local police.
• Possess binocular vision correctable to 20/30 (Snellen).
• Be free of color blindness.
• Be capable of hearing ordinary conversation at 15 feet with either ear without a hearing aid.
• Be physically able to perform all general duties, functions, and activities described in the Performance Work Statement.
• Be free of communicable diseases.
• Have documented tuberculosis testing every two years and test TB-free before starting work on the contract.
• Be in good general health without physical defects or abnormalities that would interfere with performing the duties.

Responsibilities

• Be capable of detaining person(s) while VA Police or Local Police are notified and able to report to the scene.
• Read, understand, and apply printed rules, detailed orders, instructions, and training materials.
• Construct and write clear, concise, accurate, and detailed reports.
• Meet and deal with the public in a professional manner.
• Maintain poise and self-control under stress.
• Perform all general duties, functions, and activities described in the Performance Work Statement.
