About The Position

The Trucking Coordinator is based in Watertown, NY, and is responsible for driving a gasoline- or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination to transport and deliver products, livestock, or materials. The position reports to the Hatchery Manager and includes supervising truck drivers and overseeing the maintenance and repairs of the trucking fleet. The coordinator must be willing to travel overnight and drive either solo or with a co-driver.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED, one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
• Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software.
• Current and valid Class A CDL driver's license and medical card.
• Working knowledge of chick delivery equipment.
• Willingness to travel overnight.
• Willingness to drive solo or with a co-driver.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

• Drive a truck to destinations and load and/or unload the truck.
• Supervise truck drivers.
• Inspect trucks for defects before and after trips and submit reports on truck condition.
• Maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations and maintain DOT driver qualification files.
• Clean and sanitize trucks in accordance with biosecurity requirements.
• Oversee maintenance and repairs of the trucking fleet.
• Report and investigate accidents involving company trucks.
• Confer with department heads about accident rates and equipment abuse, and recommend measures to improve safety records and conserve equipment.
