About The Position

The Ocean & Trucking Specialist manages ocean freight forwarding, import customs clearance, and domestic trucking activities. The role coordinates daily transportation services for domestic and international shipments, develops improved routes, serves as a subject matter expert, and manages industry vendors. The position operates in a rapidly expanding, high-energy, fast-paced environment. The specialist supports Global Logistics US Operations leaders and works with freight forwarders, customs brokers, trucking companies, ground and warehouse operations, and Global Freight Forwarding Specialists. They coordinate import and export schedules, monitor shipments, maintain carrier relationships and performance, and help improve logistics operations. The role also prepares daily shipping reports and researches routes and carriers for global expansion.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Ability to work with little supervision and track multiple processes.

Generally, at least two years of experience in the logistics industry.

Ability to use judgment and reasoning and determine when to escalate issues in a timely manner.
Ability to work extended hours as required and during weekends and national holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

Support Global Logistics US Operations leaders in managing activities with freight forwarders, customs brokers, trucking companies, ground operations, warehouse operations, and Global Freight Forwarding Specialists.
Create and maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and trucking companies for assigned trade lanes.
Schedule and monitor daily transportation activities, including ocean bookings, vessel schedules, and domestic pickups and deliveries.
Look for opportunities to enhance Global Logistics.
Ensure import documents are passed to customs brokers in a timely manner.
Manage international export schedules with internal and external parties.
Ensure inbound and outbound shipments meet requirements for correct, on-time, undamaged, and low-cost shipping.
Maintain adequate driver coverage when required on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Report discrepancies and delays and work with freight forwarders, freight brokers, and trucking companies to support on-time arrivals.
Keep records of trucking company KPIs.
Develop and maintain reliable carriers to support timely performance.
Maintain knowledge of freight forwarding and domestic trucking regulations.
Suggest and implement corrective actions as issues arise.
Prepare accurate daily shipping reports for upper management.
Identify opportunities to enhance Global Logistics US Operations practices and implement consistent processes across the organization.
Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the US Operations Supervisor.
Assist with researching new lanes and routes for global expansion.
Assist with researching new carriers, forwarders, and truckers.
