About The Position

The Truck Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, minor repairs, troubleshooting, and general maintenance on trucks, trailers, and forklifts. The work includes gas and diesel engines, electrical systems, emission control systems, hydraulics, and other vehicle components. Technicians may be required to perform repairs at roadsides or worksites, travel to repair locations, and travel to obtain parts. The employer provides training. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

At least 1 year of experience in diesel engine truck repair, air brakes, forklift repair, hydraulic system repair, clutch repair, electrical repair, engine diagnostics, and DEF system repair.
Proficiency in hydraulic and electronic diagnosis, troubleshooting, and reading diagrams.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Ability to work with little or no supervision and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and time-management skills.
Strong research skills and ability to solve unconventional problems.
Knowledge of inspecting brake systems, transmissions, engines, steering mechanisms, and other vehicle parts, and interpreting diagnostic test results.

Responsibilities

Identify problems with mechanical, diesel, and electrical systems and execute solutions.
Perform preventive maintenance services on truck and trailer equipment.
Troubleshoot, repair, and perform general maintenance on the fleet.
Conduct California 90-day BIT and Federal USDOT inspections.
Perform on-site repairs, including traveling to repair locations and to obtain parts.
Maintain records and order parts and supplies.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment and follow safety procedures.
