About The Position
CalPortland is seeking a mechanic to maintain its fleet of transfer trucks, bottom hoppers, and ready-mix trucks. Work is performed in the shop and in the field. The successful candidate will service and troubleshoot trucks and heavy equipment, complete repairs and preventive maintenance, maintain service records, and prepare work orders and parts requests using SAP. Field repairs may be required during inclement weather.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of industrial and shop safety rules and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment to test and troubleshoot proper operation before and after maintenance.
- Computer experience entering data for work orders and purchasing parts.
- Experience with basic fabrication and the use and application of welders and gas torch systems.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance.
- Reliable attendance.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently independently and as part of a team.
- Must bring the tools necessary to perform the job.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Nice To Haves
- Journeyman-level mechanic with 3–5 years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty diesel and medium-fleet automotive equipment.
- Class A driver’s license.
- Recent completion of diesel mechanic schooling.
Responsibilities
- Service trucks and heavy equipment using various hand and power tools.
- Perform oil changes, remove and replace wheels for clutch and brake work, replace G.E.T., and complete related work.
- Comply with CalPortland’s safety and environmental programs and requirements.
- Troubleshoot and repair commercial trucks and equipment.
- Communicate the status of downed vehicles to the lead mechanic.
- Maintain repair, service, and maintenance records.
- Prepare work orders and order parts in the SAP operating system.
- Safely perform field repairs during inclement weather and report incidents or injuries to management as soon as they occur.
- Perform other related duties as needed.
