The Truck Mechanic maintains company vehicles and other equipment in safe mechanical condition and keeps the fleet operationally ready. The role includes preventive maintenance, inspections, routine repairs, fuel-system equipment maintenance, and accurate vehicle and parts records. The mechanic makes decisions about routine maintenance and parts replacement; major repairs and related parts expenditures require approval from the Operations Manager. Most work takes place inside a repair garage, with periodic road-service calls in all types of weather. The work involves frequent contact with petroleum products, fumes, and cleaning solvents; noise is generally moderate but can occasionally be very loud. Tasks may take place under, inside, or on top of vehicles and may involve vibration, electrical-shock risk, and proximity to moving mechanical parts. Physical activity includes frequent standing and use of the hands and arms, occasional walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing, and lifting up to 25 pounds frequently and 25 to 100 pounds or more occasionally. The position requires prioritizing workloads, distinguishing among minor, major, and safety-related repairs, and working well with others. The mechanic has frequent contact with the Operations Manager or location manager, drivers, vendors, and office staff.
