About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class B heavy-touch CDL Truck Driver in Ashland, Virginia. The driver transports medical supplies in a straight truck on routes in surrounding areas and returns home daily. The role involves handling freight, including loading and unloading or assisting with those tasks when required by the customer. Drivers operate company trucks that are described as well-maintained, safe, and 36 months or newer, with 24/7 roadside maintenance support and fueling available at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations.

The position pays $26.50 per hour, with weekly pay and approximately 40–45 hours per week. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with a variable start time. Paid training is provided. A TWIC card is preferred but not required; Ryder states that it will reimburse the cost. Uniforms and a boot allowance are provided.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have verifiable Class A or Class B experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle, meeting one of these thresholds: 9 months within the past 3 years, 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Responsibilities

• Comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect, eliminate, or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
