About The Position
Ryder is hiring a Class B heavy-touch CDL truck driver in Houston, Texas. The driver operates a straight truck delivering medical supplies to surrounding areas and returns home daily. The work involves heavy-touch freight and may require loading and unloading. Drivers use pallet jacks and stair walkers. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with start times between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The position pays $25.50 per hour for approximately 45–50 hours per week and includes paid training. Ryder provides well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, 24/7 roadside maintenance, and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations. Ryder describes its driving role as one that supports driver autonomy and safety. Drivers make safety decisions, and their jobs are protected. The company also offers driver support during the transition to a company-driver role and throughout their careers.
Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Pass a Ryder drug test.
- Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
- Pass a DOT physical.
- Pass a Ryder road test.
- Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
- Have verifiable Class A or Class B experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
- Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
Nice To Haves
- A TWIC card is preferred but not required; Ryder will reimburse for it.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
- Detect, eliminate, or minimize safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate records and logs.
- Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
