About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class B HEAVY TOUCH CDL Truck Driver in Ashland, Virginia. The driver operates a straight truck on routes in surrounding areas and returns home daily. The role transports medical supplies and requires heavy-touch freight handling. Equipment includes pallet jacks, stair walkers, and forklifts. Ryder provides paid training and well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer, along with 24/7 roadside maintenance and fueling at more than 800 nationwide maintenance locations.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, with a variable start time and 40–45 hours per week. Pay is $26.50 per hour and is paid weekly. Customer or patient experience is required. A TWIC card is preferred; Ryder indicates it will reimburse the cost. The position includes uniforms and a boot allowance, and eligible drivers can access the listed benefits and employee discounts.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test, background check, motor vehicle check, and DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have verifiable Class A or Class B experience in a tractor trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Customer or patient experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect, eliminate, or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Load and unload freight, or assist with loading and unloading when required by the customer.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
