About The Position

Ryder is hiring a Class A CDL Truck Driver in Danville, Virginia. This local position involves safely handling and maneuvering tractor trailers on the yard and on nearby public roads. Drivers perform no-touch shuttle runs of 34 miles and yard work, using a yard truck and dry van trailers or pup containers. The route is local, and drivers are home daily.

The position pays $27.00 per hour, with weekly pay and an expected 40–50 hours per week. Paid training is provided. The operation runs Monday through Sunday, with start times between 2:00 AM and 3:00 AM. Drivers operate well-maintained trucks, receive 24/7 roadside maintenance support, and can fuel at Ryder maintenance locations nationwide. The role requires compliance with safety and DOT regulations, ongoing training, and customer service.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical.
• Pass a Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.

Responsibilities

• Safely handle and maneuver tractor trailers on the yard and within an area on public roads.
• Comply with applicable safety and DOT regulations.
• Participate in continuous training and provide customer service.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect and eliminate or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Maintain accurate move and yard inventory records.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
