About The Position

Ryder is hiring a part-time solo Class A CDL truck driver in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The driver shuttles equipment between Ryder customer facilities, moving empty trailers with no-touch freight. The route is local, with daily home time, Monday through Friday, starting at 8 a.m. The position is scheduled for 30 hours per week and pays $20 per hour, paid weekly.

Drivers operate well-maintained trucks that are 36 months old or newer. Ryder provides 24/7 roadside maintenance by Ryder-trained technicians and fueling at its maintenance facilities. The role involves safely operating a commercial vehicle, following safety and DOT regulations, completing continuous training, and providing customer service.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Pass a Ryder drug test.
• Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last three years.
• Pass a DOT physical and Ryder road test.
• Provide the appropriate CDL and endorsements for the position.
• Have Class A verifiable experience in a tractor-trailer or comparable vehicle: 9 months within the past 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5 years, or 5 years within the last 10 years.
• Be able to follow written and/or oral instructions.
• Be able to read, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or procedures.
• Some assignments may require additional screening, which may include employment and education verification, a motor vehicle records check, a road test, and/or customer badging or background requirements.

Responsibilities

• Safely drive a commercial vehicle while complying with safety and DOT regulations.
• Shuttle equipment between Ryder customer facilities, moving empty trailers.
• Follow applicable federal and state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
• Detect, eliminate, or minimize safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records and logs.
• Complete continuous training and provide customer service.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.
