About The Position

This program is designed for Juniors or Seniors enrolled in a school's Youth Apprenticeship or Work-Study Program. Participants will learn and practice safety standards set by OSHA, receive power tool and equipment training, and learn core construction skills including basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and finishing techniques. The program also focuses on general workplace readiness and etiquette, job site roles, time management, teamwork, and communication. Participants will complete certifications such as OSHA-10 and First Aid/CPR, gain knowledge of sustainability in building, and engage in hands-on building projects.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior enrolled in schools Youth Apprenticeship or Work-Study Program.
  • Consistent and adequate progress on work skills and work hours.
  • Passing grades and no missing work in school.
  • Good attendance at school.
  • Proper attire for scheduled workdays.
  • Consistent and good communication for scheduling.
  • Must be a FCP Tribal Member or Descendent to participate.

Responsibilities

  • Learning and practicing safety standards set by OSHA.
  • Receiving power tool and equipment training as well as proper maintenance and cleaning for specific equipment.
  • Learning core construction skills: Basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, and finishing techniques.
  • Learning general workplace readiness and etiquette.
  • Understanding Job site roles, time management, teamwork, and communication.
  • Completing certifications such as OSHA-10 and First Aid/CPR.
  • Gaining knowledge of the importance of sustainability (green building, energy efficiency).
  • Participating in hands-on building projects.
