About The Position
This is a Travel Registered Nurse – First Assist (RNFA) assignment in Carbondale, Illinois, with a start date of 09/21/2026 for a 13-week duration. Requirements
- Active RN license in Illinois (or ability to practice in Illinois)
- BLS certification
- RN First Assist experience or documented RNFA training/experience in an OR setting
- Ability to work in a fast-paced operating room environment
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (RN)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; willingness to travel on assignment
Responsibilities
- Provide intraoperative assistance as a RN First Assist (RNFA) under the supervising surgeon during a variety of procedures
- Maintain sterile technique, manage surgical counts, and handle instruments, retractors, suction, and lighting as needed
- Assist with exposure, tissue handling, incision and closure, hemostasis, and wound management
- Position the patient, apply draping, and help prepare the operative field; support perioperative workflow and patient safety
- Collaborate with the OR team, anesthesia providers, and circulating staff; communicate intraoperative needs and changes
- Document intraoperative events and assist with post-operative care coordination as appropriate within scope
