About The Position

The Transportation Driver drives residents to scheduled appointments and, when needed and available, to planned outings. This is a full-time position that may require flexibility in specific hours. The driver coordinates transportation with administration, assists residents with transfers and mobility devices as needed, supports activity staff on off-campus activities, and maintains facility vehicles in a clean and attractive condition. The role requires safe and responsible driving, professional communication, familiarity with vehicle safety and emergency equipment, and the ability to respond to emergencies, including possible resident evacuation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 4 years of safe, on-road/city driving experience.
• Satisfactory driving record.
• Knowledge of safe driving skills and ability to make responsible decisions while transporting residents.
• Ability to drive lift vans and lift buses.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
• Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
• Ability to communicate by telephone and other vehicle automation.
• Ability to manage situations involving sick residents and heavy traffic, and respond to emergencies, including possible resident evacuation.

Nice To Haves

• North Carolina State Class C driver’s license with Passenger Endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with administration regarding transportation appointments.
• Assist residents with transferring into and out of vehicles using appropriate body mechanics, and load residents’ assisted devices into the vehicle.
• Ensure residents arrive at and are picked up from appointments in a timely manner.
• Assist activity staff during off-campus activities.
• Understand and use safety and emergency equipment in facility vehicles.
• Keep vehicles clean and attractive at all times.
• Demonstrate professional behavior when handling difficult communications with various parties.
• Perform other specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
