Entry-Level Transportation Design Engineer

About The Position

Mead & Hunt is seeking an enthusiastic entry-level transportation engineer to assist with transportation projects across Wisconsin. The role involves using design software to prepare engineering and design documents and developing construction cost estimates. The engineer will work independently and in teams, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and help ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. The role also includes strategic involvement in transportation projects and participation in client interactions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering from an accredited college or university, or the ability to obtain the degree within nine months of hire.
Ability and willingness to travel as needed.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Nice To Haves

Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) exam, or ability to pass it within six months of the start date.
Past internship experience on transportation projects.
Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

Work alongside experienced engineers on challenging transportation projects.
Use computer-assisted programs such as Autodesk Civil 3D to prepare engineering and design documents, computations, and quantity estimates.
Analyze and prepare reports, specifications, plans, schedules, studies, permits, and other design documents for projects.
Assist with CAD-based design work and support design and plan production for transportation-related projects.
Develop construction cost estimates for projects.
Collaborate with clients and stakeholders, including county and municipal governments and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), and build relationships to deliver community-focused projects and strengthen company presence.
Conduct occasional project site visits to monitor progress.
Actively engage in local, statewide, and/or national professional organizations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
