About The Position

Transports patients to and from the Imaging Department safely and efficiently. Assists technologists with moving patients on and off exam tables, communicates patient status to appropriate personnel, and communicates courteously with patients, families, and the public.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.

• One year of health care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport patients safely and efficiently, including securing a “ticket to ride” through the Meditech system, introducing themselves, verifying identity using two hospital-approved identifiers, coordinating the appropriate transport method with Nursing staff, and completing the Patient Transport log book.
• Use proper and safe transfer techniques, including appropriate body mechanics, ensuring enough personnel are present, using roller and slide transfer devices as appropriate, and securing beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs before transfers.
• Follow hospital infection-control guidelines and universal and standard precautions; use hand sanitizer properly and inform technologists of precautions for individual patients.
• Properly secure equipment accompanying patients, including verifying and maintaining oxygen flow rates and positioning IV bags, chest tubes, and urinary drainage bags.
• Assist technologists in getting patients on and off exam tables.
• Communicate patient status to appropriate personnel and communicate courteously with patients, families, and the public.
