About The Position

The Transfer Center Associate facilitates seamless patient transfers between hospitals, working closely with RNs, physicians, and EMS teams. The role manages transfer requests, arranges appropriate transportation, and ensures required documents and patient details are accurately recorded to support smooth transitions and exceptional care. The position works with referring parties and internal clinical and patient access teams to coordinate transfers, obtain clinical information, arrange beds and registration, document transfer details, and coordinate ground or air transportation. It requires compliance with EMTALA laws, CMS guidelines, and hospital policies. The position is initially onsite at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York, and is expected to move to Montour Falls, New York, in 2025. The schedule follows a 2-on/2-off rotation. Pay is $20.50 to $26.00 per hour, plus benefits.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Functional understanding of EMTALA law and CMS guidelines.
Excellent customer-service and communication skills.
Proficiency with electronic medical records and payer authorization processes.

Responsibilities

Build trusting, professional relationships with referring parties and provide empathetic customer service to address patient transfer needs.
Coordinate and facilitate hospital transfers in accordance with EMTALA laws, hospital policies, and appropriate levels of care.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, Administrative Supervisors, and Patient Access teams to obtain clinical information, assign beds, and initiate patient registration before transfer.
Accurately document transfer requests in the electronic medical record, including patient demographics, clinical details, provider information, and payer authorizations.
Coordinate ground and air transportation logistics and keep stakeholders informed of updates or changes affecting the transfer process.
